Understanding And Preventing Swollen Gums
A swollen gum can be caused by an erupting wisdom tooth. Sometimes the tooth above bites the tissue and causes pain. You should definitely seek immediate dental care, so that you can keep your teeth and prevent any further damage. Gum disease raises the risk of having a stroke and may lead to early death. It is also suspected that periodontal disease may cause respiratory disease, particularly lung infections such as pneumonia, or exacerbate existing respiratory conditions or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Healthy gums are pink and firm and do not bleed easily. Occasionally your gums may bleed if you brush your teeth and gums too hard, use a hard-bristled toothbrush, or snap dental floss hard against your gums. Be gentle with your teeth; use a soft-bristled tooth brush and floss carefully to help prevent this problem.
